The first Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week for the 2017-2018 season is Sherwood Park Crusaders centre Ty Readman. With 6 points (2 goals, 4 assists) in the opening weekend of the regular season, Readman takes an early lead in the AJHL Scoring Race.
Ty Readman (Edmonton, AB) scored a goal and an assist in the Crusaders Home Opener versus Drayton Valley on Friday night and aided his team in a 7-4 win. Readman’s goal and 2 assists on Saturday night led to a 5-2 win over Drayton Valley and wrapped up opening weekend with a 2-0 record for the Cru.
Readman, 19, is in his third full season with the Crusaders and recently committed to the Northern Michigan Wildcats (Western Collegiate Hockey Association) in Division I of the NCAA for the 2018-19 season. Ty has been selected as an Alternate Captain for the 2017-18 campaign. Last season, Readman was tied for the lead in team scoring with 68 points and finished in the Top 10 of the AJHL Scoring Race.
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Canmore Eagles goaltender Thomas Davis. Davis opened the AJHL regular season with 2 wins over the Calgary Mustangs by allowing just 3 goals against on 91 shots on goal. The 19 year-old goalie was selected as the Viterra Star of the Game in both victories.
Davis got the start in both games against the Mustangs over the weekend. He would face 43 shots on Saturday night in a 3-2 win, and 48 shots on Saturday in a 4-1 victory. Thomas Davis (St Albert, AB) is in his second AJHL season with the Eagles.
