Fort McMurray Oil Barons forward Reed Morrison is the Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week. Morrison scored 6 goals and recorded 7 points in two games last week to move into second place in the AJHL Scoring Race with 45 points.
Reed Morrison (Calgary, AB) scored two goals in the first 7 minutes of the first period on Saturday night against Lloydminster, then added another goal in both the second and third period on the way to an 11-2 win for Fort McMurray. The 4-point game was a first for Morrison in his three seasons in the AJHL. On Sunday afternoon, Reed scored two unassisted goals and recorded an assist in a 5-3 win over Bonnyville. He was rewarded as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game in both Oil Baron victories.
Morrison and the Oil Barons are fourth in the North Division Standings with games in hand on the top three teams. The MOB is 7-2-1 in the last 10 games and have won three straight.
Brooks Bandits goaltender Tanner Marshall is the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week. Marshall went 3-0 last week after joining the Bandits from the BCHL and posted two consecutive shutouts.
Marshall, 18, stopped all 25 shots he faced in his first game in a Brooks Bandits uniform in a 4-0 road win over the Calgary Mustangs on Tuesday night. He posted his second consecutive shutout and continued his perfect career with his new team, as the Bandits recorded a 6-0 win over the visiting Calgary Canucks on Wednesday night. The week ended with Marshall making 13 saves and a 5-2 win in a rematch with the Cancuks on Saturday to push his record to 3-0.
The Brooks Bandits hold top spot in the AJHL Standings and the most recent CJHL Top 20 Weekly Rankings with a record of 29-3-0. The Bandits are one of three AJHL teams riding a 5-game win streak, including the Sherwood Park Crusaders and Drumheller Dragons.
