The first Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week for the 2018-19 season is Drumheller Dragons rookie Shane Ott. In his first two AJHL games, Ott scored 2 goals and 5 assists to lead all AJHL scorers with 7 points after opening weekend.
The 18 year-old forward from Colorado recorded his first AJHL goal and 4 assists in an 11-3 victory over the Brooks Bandits during Drumheller’s Home Opener on Friday night. He added another goal and an assist in a 4-1 win over the Camrose Kodiaks on Saturday.
The Dragons raced out to a 2-0 start in the 2018-19 season against two South Division. Drumheller and Brooks will quickly have a rematch of this contest as the two meet again in the Bandits’ Home Opener on Friday, September 21st.
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is defenceman Taner Miller of the Fort McMurray Oil Barons. The four-year MOB veteran opened the new season with 2 goals and 2 assists in a double header versus the Grande Prairie Storm.
Miller (Lethbridge, AB) posted an assist in Friday night’s opener as the Oil Barons stole a 3-2 win. The 20 year-old blueliner scored the game winner on Saturday night and recorded 3 points (2 G, 1A) in a 6-3 victory to earn the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game Award.
Fort McMurray was one of four teams in the Viterra AJHL North Division to open the new season with a 2-0 record.
