Cody Young of the Drumheller Dragons is the Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week for the week of February 13th-19th. Young scored 7 points (4G, 3A) in three games for the Dragons to put together his fourth 3-game point streak of the season.
Cody Young (Saskatoon, SK) was twice awarded as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game in consecutive games against the Eagles over the weekend. He scored 1 goal and 1 assist in a 5-4 OTL to the Calgary Canucks on Tuesday to open the week. He then recorded his highest single game point total of the season on Friday with 2 goals and 2 assists in another close 5-4 loss to the Canmore Eagles On Saturday he notched 1 goal and 2 assists against the Eagles.
The 20 year-old left winger is third in team scoring with 15 goals, 12 assists and 27 points. Young and the Dragons are 6th in the Viterra AJHL South Division with four regular season games remaining.
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Lloydminster Bobcats goaltender Austin McGrath. The homegrown goalie recorded 2 shutout wins and one loss over three games and allowed just 4 goals on 114 shots.
McGrath, 19, is the first Bobcat to win the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week award this season. He shutout the Bonnyville Pontiacs on February 14th and received the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game Award. He recorded a second consecutive shutout on February 17th versus the Grande Prairie Storm.
McGrath is 10-25-3 on the season and is among the Top 10 AJHL Goalies with a .908 save percentage. He has recorded the third most saves of all goalies with 1,266.
The Bobcats are in a tight race for the final two playoff spots in the Viterra AJHL North Division with just five regular season games remaining.
