CALGARY, Alberta – The CJHL 3 Stars for the month of October 2013 are Whitby Fury (OJHL) forward Taylor Best, OCN Blizzard (MJHL) forward Damien Kulynych, and West Kelowna Warriors (BCHL) forward Jason Cotton.
1st STAR – TAYLOR BEST, F, Whitby Fury, OJHL (10 GP, 12 G, 9 A, 21 PTS, 2.1 PPG)
Taylor Best recorded 21 points in ten games during the month of October. The third year Fury alternate captain improved on last month's totals to lead all OJHL North-East Conference scorers with 12 goals and 21 points. The hometown boy also secured an NCAA Division I commitment to attend Mercyhurst University beginning with the 2014-15 Atlantic Hockey season. Throughout the month of October, Best recorded multiple points in six of ten games, including two four point efforts and a hat trick.
2nd STAR – DAMIEN KULYNYCH, F, OCN Blizzard, MJHL (11 GP, 6 G, 16 A, 22 PTS, 2.0 PPG)
Damien Kulynych of the OCN Blizzard was outstanding in October with 22 points in 11 games. The 20 year old forward from Calgary, Alberta wrapped up October in a three-way tie atop the MJHL scoring race. Kulynych is enjoying the greatest success of his Junior A career thus far as he sits just nine points back of his career high of 37 points from his rookie CJHL season.
3rd STAR – JASON COTTON, F, West Kelowna Warriors, BCHL (10 GP, 6 G, 12 A, 18 PTS, 1.8 PPG)
Jason Cotton scored at least a point in all 10 West Kelowna Warriors games in October and had six goals and 12 assists for 18 points. Cotton was named a game star four times and also notched a game-winning goal in an October 6th road victory over Cowichan Valley. Cotton’s production allowed him to take over the Warriors scoring lead. Jason Cotton is in his first season in the BCHL and has committed to Northeastern University.
