The Crusaders are proud to announce captain Deryk Pys (’02) has committed to Alaska Fairbanks University (NCAA Div. 1).
Pys’ commitment marks the Crusaders’ sixth NCAA Division 1 commitment of the 2022/2023 season.
“We are happy that Derek has earned a commitment to play for the Nanooks next year,” commented Crusaders head coach Evan McFeeters. “Derek has had a tremendous impact on our team this season. He is driving our culture in the right direction as our captain and is an impact player on the ice for us on a nightly basis. Alaska-Fairbanks will be getting a skilled play driver and a character, team-first person joining their dressing room in the fall.”
“I am very grateful for this opportunity, especially when I’ve been out with a broken wrist for half the season.” said Pys. “Alaska was the perfect spot for me and I couldn’t be more excited to play for their organization next year.”
Pys was acquired at the onset of the 2022/2023 season from the Cambridge Redhawks of the GOJHL. In the previous season, Pys earned both the GOJHL (Midwestern) Best Defenseman Award and a selection as a GOJHL (Midwestern) First All-Star Team. In his first season with the Crusaders, the Ontario native has collected 7 points (1 goal, 6 assists).
The entire Crusaders organization would like to congratulate Derek and the Pys family on his accomplishment.
