The Drumheller Dragons are excited to announce that graduating goaltender Eric Ward has committed to attend Concordia University in the ACAC (Alberta College Athletics Conference). The Thunder finished with an overall record of 11-3-0 in 16 games losing only to the Nait Ooks in the ACAC final of the 2021/22 season.
Ward had a successful junior hockey career which featured starts with the Drayton Valley Thunder and the Drumheller Dragons. The 21-year-old from Edmonton Alberta finished two seasons with the Thunder compiling a record of 24-19-4 in the regular season and an impressive 1.31 GAA and .960 winning percentage in the first round of the play-offs before the pandemic forced a conclusion to that season. With the Dragons, Eric continued to perform at an elite level winning 23 games during the regular season with only 9 defeats in regulation and 7 in overtime. The play-offs continued to be Wards best minutes played, winning 6 games compiling a 2.12 GAA and a .925 save percentage.
“Eric brings a lot of enthusiasm and energy in the way he competes,” says Coach Kevin Hasselberg. “Eric can manage the pressure that comes with playing in big games, instilling confidence in his teammates and coaches, while consistently making saves. Eric is a goaltender that will push everyone to meet expectations, he’s passionate, humble, and a tremendous teammate.”
The Drumheller Dragons would like to thank the entire coaching staff of the Concordia University Thunder for believing in Eric and granting him the opportunity to further his education while playing hockey. We also wish to extend a congratulations out to Eric, his entire family and support team, with this accomplishment.
