GRIZZLYS HIRE NHL ALUMNUS PETER SCHAEFER AS HEAD COACH

The Olds Grizzlys are pleased to introduce Peter Schaefer as the team’s new head coach.  Schaefer comes to the Grizz den after playing over 500 NHL games with the Vancouver Canucks, Ottawa Senators and Boston Bruins.

Schaefer is a former WHL MVP with the Brandon Wheat Kings and a Gold medal winner with Team Canada at the World Jr Hockey Championship.  Schaefer has bench experience with the Surrey Eagles of the BCHL where he was a GM, head coach and assistant coach. He helped the Surrey Eagles win the BCHL title in 2012-13.

“I’m excited to bring my playing and coaching experiences to the Grizzlys organization and look forward to putting together a good team with a great culture both on and off the ice. My vision is to have a team that plays hard, fast, and for each other, for the Grizzlys organization and for the community that supports us. And to develop players that can reach the next level.”

Schaefer will be at the helm when the Grizzlys start training camp August 23.

Scott Atkinson has stepped down as head coach effective immediately, but will be staying on in an advisory role. The Grizzlys also announced that assistant coach Kyle Finch will not have his contract renewed.  The Grizzlys want to thank Kyle for his contributions and wish him well in his future endeavours.
