Joss, McKinley and Hauer Receive Player of the Week Honours

Sherwood Park Crusaders forward Mitchell Joss is the Pizza 73 AJHL Player of the Week following an 8-point performance from September 20th – 26th, 2021.   In three games last week, Joss scored 3 goals, 5 assists and now leads the Crusaders in scoring.

Joss (Winnipeg, MB) scored two goals, including the overtime winner, on September 21st in a 4-3 victory versus the Drayton Valley Thunder.   The Crusaders headed North for a double header on September 25th and 26th in Grande Prairie and split a heated series.   The Storm earned a 6-5 win in their Home Opener in which Joss tallied a goal and two assists.   Sherwood Park evened the series with a 6-3 win in the rematch where Joss recorded three assists and earned the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game award.

The Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week also represents the Sherwood Park Crusaders.   Forward Logan Hauer posted a 7-point (3G, 4A) week for the Cru and now sits second in team scoring behind Mitchell Joss.  

Hauer (Calgary, AB) opened the week as the Viterra Star of the Game with a goal and three assists in the 4-3 OT win versus Drayton Valley, including an assist on the game winner by Joss.   The 17 year-old rookie added a goal and as assist in Saturday’s 6-5 loss to the Storm.   Logan opened the scoring on Sunday and contributed another assist in the eventual 6-3 win on the road in Grande Prairie.

Spruce Grove Saints defenceman Breck McKinley is the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week.   The 17 year-old leads all AJHL defencemen in scoring with 8 points (1G, 7A) following a 6-point performance.

McKinley scored his first goal of the season as the Saints exploded for a 9-2 win over the Lloydminster Bobcats on September 22nd.   The Bobcats took revenge on September 24th with a 6-5 shoot out win over the Saints.   Breck hit the score sheet with two assists in the tight affair.   McKinley and the Saints defence held the Bobcats to one goal on September 25th in a 7-1 win.  The St Albert, AB defenceman recorded 3 assists in the victory as the two teams wrapped up a three-game battle.
