The Dauphin Kings are heading to the RBC Cup following a 4-3 victory over the Spruce Grove Saints Sunday evening at the Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup.
Dauphin grabbed the second berth for the RBC Cup by scoring three unanswered goals in the third period. In the end the Kings had tallies from Dylan Butler (2), Aubrey Chapman (1)(SH), Hudson Morrison (1) and Chandler Irvin (2). Spruce had markers from Tritan Sieben (2), Corey Chorneyko (1) and Nathan Smith (2).
The story of the game was the loss of Dauphin starting netminder Jordan Piccolino, he was hurt in the first period following a collision. So in came 16 year old Troy Martyniuk. He ended up stopping 24 of 26 shots he faced, some of which were very high quality. At the other end Tanner McCorriston turned aside 20 of 24.
Dauphin had numerous Power Plays, but couldn't score going 0 for 7. Spruce Grove ended the evening 0 for 3. Player of the game nods went to Spruce Grove's Corey Chorneyko while Troy Martyniuk got it for Dauphin
As mentioned the Kings are now off to the RBC Cup in Vernon BC, they join the HOST Vernon Vipers, SJHL's Yorkton Terriers, CCHL's Carleton Place Canadians and OJHL's Toronto Lakeshore Patriots.
The Kings (According to the Hockey Canada Website) will be in the first game at the RBC Cup. They'll meet the Toronto Lakeshore Patriots next Saturday afternoon, 4:00pm Manitoba time.
