The Grande Prairie Storm have earned the Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week and Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week awards after back-to-back wins and are tied for first place in the Viterra AJHL North Division.
Rookie forward Chayse Laurie led the AJHL with seven points (3G, 4A) over two games as the Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week. He scored two game winners as the Storm swept the Drayton Valley Thunder by a score of 5-4 in both games of a weekend double header. Teammate Alec Hall recorded four points (2G, 2A) in the victories and extended his point streak to three games to earn the Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week honours.
On December 6th, Laurie had a three-point game (1G, 2A) that included the game winning goal scored with under two minutes remaining. On December 7th, he was awarded as the Viterra AJHL Player of the Game with four points (2G, 2A) and another game winning goal scored in the third period.
Chayse Laurie (2006) is tied for sixth in AJHL Scoring Leaders and is third among AJHL rookies with 27 points (10G, 17A) in 25 games.
Alec Hall was recognized as the Viterra AJHL Player of the Game on December 6th for his three-point performance (2G, 1A). The 2006-born rookie recorded his 20th point of the season with an assist in the December 7th win. With 20 points (9G, 11A) in 25 games played, Hall is among the Top 10 in rooking scoring. This is Hall’s second selection as Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie (October 21st-27th, 2024).
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Camrose Kodiaks goaltender Carter Capton with two shutout victories in his return from the WHL’s Vancouver Giants.
Capton (2005) posted a 3-0 shutout over the Bonnyville Pontiacs with 21 saves on December 6th and a 2-0 shutout over the Drumheller Dragons with a 36-save performance on December 7th. Capton (Lethbridge, AB) was awarded as the Viterra AJHL Player of the Game in both victories.
Carter Capton is tied with a league-leading three shutouts and has a 2.57 GAA with a .920 save percentage and a record of 11-5-1-2 (W-L-OT-SOL) in 19 games for the Kodiaks, as well as a 1-1 record for the Vancouver Giants in November.
