LOOMER, BROWN AND DOHERTY SELECTED AS AJHL WEEKLY AWARD WINNERS

The Pizza 73 AJHL Player of the Week is Layne Loomer of the Blackfalds Bulldogs.  The Penn State (NCAA) commit scored four goals and seven points in three games from January 8th-14th, 2024 and extended his point streak to seven games.

Loomer (2005) recorded two assists in a 4-1 win on home ice against the Bonnyville Pontiacs on January 9th.  The Lethbridge, AB forward scored a powerplay goal and a short handed goal in a 5-1 road win over the Drayton Valley Thunder on January 12th and was awarded as the Viterra AJHL Player of the Game. Layne Loomer opened the scoring for the second consecutive game on January 13th and went on to post a three-point night with two goals and an assist in a 4-3 win in Drumheller.  Loomer picked up his second Viterra AJHL Player of the Game award in the victory.

Layne is in his second season with the Bulldogs and in the Top 15 of the AJHL Scoring Race with 47 points (17G, 30A) in 36 games.

For a second consecutive week, Rylan Brown of the Okotoks Oilers is the AJHL Defensive Player of the Week.  Brown led the AJHL in points last week with eight (1G, 7A) as his Oilers picked up three wins and extended their current win streak to seven games.

The Okotoks Oilers opened their three-game road trip on January 12th with a 6-3 win in Bonnyville and two assists for Rylan Brown.   The 2005-born defenceman added another two assists and earned the Viterra AJHL Player of the Game in a 4-1 win in Fort McMurray the following night.  Brown opened the scoring on January 14th and added three assists for a four-point game and an 8-4 win to wrap up the double header in Fort McMurray.  He was once again awarded as the Viterra AJHL Player of the Game.

Rylan Brown (Sherwood Park, AB) has recorded four consecutive multi-point games and is second among AJHL defencemen with 45 points (6G, 39A) in 38 games played. The Michigan Tech (NCAA) commit is in his third AJHL season.

2005-born Grande Prairie Storm forward, Colin Doherty, is the Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week.  With four points (1G, 3A) in two home wins, Doherty has now compiled a four-game point streak and is third in team scoring.

The Sherwood Park, AB rookie scored his second game winning goal of the season and added an assist in a 5-2 win versus the Canmore Eagles on January 12th.  Doherty recorded his second consecutive multi-point game with two assists as the Storm doubled the Olds Grizzlys 4-2 on January 13th.

Colin Doherty is tied for seventh in rookie scoring with 26 points (9G, 17A) in 38 games played.
