McAllister, Lorenz and Martin Earn AJHL Weekly Player Award Honours

Brooks Bandits forward Ryan McAllister continues to dominate the AJHL Scoring Race and has been awarded as the Pizza 73 AJHL Player of the Week for a third consecutive time.   With eight points (6G, 2A) in three games, the 20 year-old forward has recorded six consecutive multi-point games and is averaging 2.3 points per game.

McAllister (Western Michigan University) scored a goal and two assists versus the Camrose Kodiaks on February 8th as the Bandits took an 8-1 win on the road.   McAllister scored twice on February 11th, including the tying goal with minutes left in the game, but Brooks fell 3-2 in overtime to the Crusaders at the Sherwood Park Arena.   Ryan was awarded as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game.   On February 12th, McAllister scored his fourth hat trick of 2022 and earned his ninth Viterra AJHL Star of the Game award in a 10-5 victory over the Bobcats in Lloydminster.

McAllister (London, ON) is the first Bandit to register 100 points in a season and leads the AJHL in points (123) and assists (77).

The Bandits (47-5-2) have clinched first overall in the  Viterra AJHL South Division  and will receive a bye through the first round of the 2022 Inter Pipeline AJHL Playoffs.

Spruce Grove Saints goaltender Tristan Martin is the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week.   Martin recorded two wins and posted a shutout to lock up first place in the Viterra AJHL North Division during the week of February 7th-13th, 2022.

The St. Vincent, AB goaltender made 25 saves to defeat the Bonnyville Pontiacs 4-3 in overtime in a mid-week nail bitter on February 9th.       Martin, 20, recorded his first AJHL shutout on February 11th with a 2-0 win to clinch top spot in the North Division.   Tristan would receive his first Viterra AJHL Star of the Game Award for the performance.

Tristan Martin has recorded four consecutive wins and is 15-3-1 with a 2.46 GAA since joining the Saints in December 2021 through a trade with the Olds Grizzlys.   The Saints are 42-9-5 with four regular season games remaining.

The Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week is Rieger Lorenz of the Okotoks Oilers.   The 17 year-old forward set a new franchise record for most goals by a rookie and leads his team with 79 points (35G, 44A).

Lorenz (Calgary, AB) scored two goals, including his fourth game winner of the season, and added an assist as the Oilers blanked the Fort McMurray Oil Barons 5-0 to start a three-game road trip through the North Division on February 11th.   Lorenz broke Corban Knight’s team record for goals by an Oiler rookie (34) and was awarded with his 11th Viterra AJHL Star of the Game selection.   On February 12th, the University of Denver commit added two assists to bring his weekly point total to five (2G, 3A) as the Oilers were narrowly defeated by the Bonnyville Pontiacs in a 3-2 OT decision.

This is the third Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week award for Lorenz, who is fourth overall in AJHL scoring, second amongst rookies.

The Oilers are fourth in the Viterra AJHL South Division with six games left to play in the 2021-22 regular season campaign.
