Oil Barons Rep Pink Jerseys to Support Northern Lights Health Foundation

Fort McMurray, AB (February 1, 2017) –  When the Fort McMurray Oil Barons host the Whitecourt Wolverines at the Casman Centre this weekend, they’ll be doing so in style. That’s because the MOB will don pink jerseys for both games, with each game worn jersey being auctioned off to support the Northern Lights Health Foundation.

“We’re honoured to partner with RE/MAX Fort McMurray to support the Northern Lights Health Foundation’s efforts to raise money for vital medical equipment, programs and services that help Wood Buffalo residents,” said Oil Barons and Northern Alberta Athletic Association (NAAA) President David Fitzgerald.

Founded in 1985, the Northern Lights Health Foundation improves health and promotes wellness in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, by holding capital campaigns and fundraisers throughout the year. Recently, the Health Foundation kicked off its Gratitude Campaign – an ambitious $16 million fundraising campaign, made up of eight initiatives that are geared at changing the face of health care in Wood Buffalo.

The eight initiatives include a healthy schools project aimed at helping kids learn about the benefits of physical activity, mental health, and healthy eating habits. Other initiatives include renovation projects aimed at modernizing the continuing care lobby and expanding the palliative care suites at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre, to provide much needed comfort for patients and families that require long term care at the health centre.

“We’ve all visited a hospital or medical centre for help when we’re ill, injured, or require help from a medical professional,” added Fitzgerald.  “I encourage everyone to pack the Casman Centre this weekend to show support for the Health Foundation and to bid on a jersey to help Wood Buffalo families in need.”

Bidding will open before puck drop on Friday night and will close at the end of the second intermission on Saturday night. Bids can be placed by visiting the Casman Centre box office or calling (780) 743 – 5509.
