Oiler Captain, Louis Jamernik, Embarks on NCAA Journey

Okotoks, AB ? The Okotoks Oilers of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) are proud to announce that 2000 born forward & Captain Louis Jamernik (Calgary, Alberta) has committed to the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks.

Located in Grand Forks, North Dakota, the Fighting Hawks play in the NCAA?s National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) under fifth year Head Coach Brad Berry.  The Fighting Hawks have won 11 Conference Championships, participated in 32 NCAA Tournaments, 24 berths in the Frozen Four and are eight-time NCAA Champions, including their most recent win in 2016.

Jamernik, 19, in his fourth AJHL season and third year with the Oilers, finished with one goal in two games in the start of the 2020-21 Season before the AJHL paused it?s campaign

The Organization is proud of Jamernik?s early commitment to UND, and Oilers Head Coach / General Manager Tyler Deis says his Captain?s dedication to improving his game, in all aspects, made it easy for him to commit early to the Fighting Hawks.

?With the AJHL season being what it is this year, and Louis? time in the AJHL, this was the right move in his development with him going to school early and being able to get a real taste of NCAA Hockey?, he says. ?His leadership since he joined the Oilers program, and especially over the past two years, has made our program better.?

The Calgarian will be pursuing his passion for flying while enrolled in the Aviation Program at UND, one of the top facilities in the United States.  He says being able to play at a high caliber school is a privilege.

?I?m beyond excited to be joining such an elite hockey program that will not only give me the tools to develop myself as a player and a human being, but also help me achieve my dream of becoming a pilot.?

The Oiler Captain?s final AJHL stat-line reads in 150 Regular Season games, scoring 110 points (44 goals, 66 assists) and in 29 Inter Pipeline Cup Playoff games scoring 13 points (7 goals, 6 assists).

Jamernik becomes the 7th Oiler in franchise history to join the Fighting Hawks along with Brad Eidsness (2007, Buffalo Sabres), Corban Knight (2009, Florida Panthers), Derek Rodwell (2010, New Jersey Devils), Rhett Gardner (2016, Dallas Stars), Carter Huber (2018) & Jacob Bernard-Docker (2018, Ottawa Senators).
