The Okotoks Oilers are pleased to announce that captain Robbie Fisher has committed to Wilfrid Laurier University for the 2014/2015 hockey season. The Wilfrid Laurier University Golden Hawks in Waterloo, Ontario play in the CIS – Ontario University Athletic Association.
Fisher, a 1993 born forward from Kenora, Ontario played his full junior career with the Oilers starting in 2011/2012. Fisher finished his career recording 52 goals and 102 points in 170 career games played. During his 3-year career Fisher was awarded the Oiler Award / Greg Wedderburn Memorial Award in all three seasons which goes to the player that best exemplifies what the coaching staff wants in a player on & off the ice. In addition, Fisher also won the Stewy Stewart Memorial Award in 2013/2014 which is awarded to the South Division player that best exhibits the following attributes: character, dedication, perseverance, integrity and sportsmanship.
Coach James Poole stated, “I know I can speak on behalf of Oilers staff, directors, players, volunteers and fans that we feel very fortunate to call Robbie an Oiler and his presence will be felt for many years to come. His passion, leadership, dedication and commitment level had an extremely positive influence with our program on the ice, in the dressing room and in the community. The Golden Hawks are not only getting a great hockey player, but an even better person.”
Fisher will be joining past teammate and 2012-2013 co-captain Greg Lamoureux on the Golden Hawks roster. Fisher is the 9th player from the 2013-2014 Oilers committed to a post-secondary hockey program.
