PAYNE, NELSON AND NORTHGRAVE NAMED AJHL WEEKLY AWARD WINNERS

Camrose Kodiaks forward Liam Payne had eight points in four games as the Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week for October 13th-19th, 2025.

Payne (2006) recorded points in all four games played last week starting with an assist in a 2-0 matinee win versus the Lloydminster Bobcats on October 15th.  He was then awarded as the Bunge AJHL Player of the Game on October 17th with two goals, including the game winner, and an assist as the Kodiaks defeated the visiting Canmore Eagles 6-3. Camrose fell 5-3 to the Calgary Canucks the following night with Liam picking up an assist in the road game. The week closed with Payne recording an assist on all three Kodiak goals on October 19th in a 5-3 loss to the Drayton Valley Thunder.

In his second season as a Kodiak, Payne is tied for 13th in AJHL Scoring with 14 points (4G, 10A) in eleven games played.

The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is goaltender Noah Nelson of the Calgary Canucks. Nelson made 32 saves to shut down the offensively charged Drumheller Dragons on October 19th and record a 3-1 win for his hometown team. The win moved the Canucks into a tie for first place in the Bunge AJHL South Division with two games in hand. Noah was selected as the Bunge AJHL Player of the Game in the victory.

Noah Nelson (2005) is in the Top 5 of AJHL goaltenders with a 2.98 GAA and .909 save percentage. He opened the season with a 4-0 record, was recognized as the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week in September, and holds a 5-1 record in the regular season.

Breken Northgrave of the Drayton Valley Thunder is the Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week. The 18 year-old defenceman scored two goals and an assist in two divisional road wins for the Thunder.

On October 18th, Northgrave scored a goal and an assist to help lift the Thunder to a 5-2 win in Olds versus the Grizzlys. Breken scored again the next afternoon as the Thunder defeated the Camrose Kodiaks 5-3. He is currently 10th among AJHL rookies with five points in eight games played. Northgrave and the Thunder defence core have allowed the fewest goals against in the Bunge AJHL South Division (tied with the Calgary Canucks).
