RBC Community Ambassador: Damon Zimmer, Camrose Kodiaks

Damon participates weekly in school visits across Camrose. He meets with kids one on one and they look up to him as if he was a big brother. He also has a brother who he is proud of and helps care for. Damon helps cook breakfast once a week for a Community Breakfast in a school and he learns to appreciate the values of helping and giving back to the community.

His coach says that he?s seen first-hand the caring individual Damon is and that, “He is the type of person that we need more of in our communities.?

When speaking to Damon, he said, ?It is a great honour to be selected as an Ambassador, something I am very proud of. My team plays a big role in the community. We help at schools, with minor hockey, and with the food bank.”

“During training camp, our team accepts food bank donations as admission into games. Myself along with some of my teammates deliver and sort food at the bank. I also cook breakfast at a local school once a week. This allows students that may not receive proper meals at home an opportunity to have a good breakfast to start their day. I volunteer at local schools doing activities in the classroom with the students as well as reading, visiting and playing games. I try to be a good example and aspire to be a role model for each young person I interact with.”

“It is very important for me to give back to minor hockey, and hopefully, positively influence the next wave of hockey players. I am always eager to partake in practices for local teams and sometimes in a rural community where I played my own minor hockey.?

Lastly, Damon expressed accolades to his teammates, ?I want to give a lot of credit to my teammates who join me in all of these activities as we try to make a better community.?
