Saints Lose Heartbreaker, Drop to 0-2 at Western Canada Cup

Spruce Grove Saints (0-2) vs. Coquitlam Express (1-0)

Coquitlam got off to a quick start thank to a hard snap shot by Ryan Rosenthal (assists to Adam Rockwood and Marc Biega) at 6:46 of the first period, beating Saints’ goaltender Kenny Cameron just inside the post.

Both teams would get opportunities on the power play but were unable to get anything going and after one period it was 1-0 for the Express.

Spruce Grove outshot Coquitlam 8-6 in the first period.

Just past the midway point of the second period (10:50) the Saints would tie the game at 1-1 thanks to a shot from the top of the slot by Isacc Farrah (assists to Nathan Smith and Tyler Busch) that beat Express’ goaltender Gordie Defiel five hole.

The Saints dominated most of the play in the second period and outshot the Express 10-6 in the period and 23-13 in the hockey game.

The Express retook the lead in the third period as Ryan Roenthal (assist to Canon Pieper) came in on a three on two and fired the shot five hole on Cameron to make it 2-1 at 13:31.

Coquitlam added to their lead later in the third period as Bo Pieper set up his brother Canon Pieper who snapped the shot over Cameron`s glove to make it 3-1 at 18:43.

That would be the final score as the Saints see their record drop to 0-2.
