Showcase Weekend Key Spotlight for AJHL Players

One of the best clutch of days on the Alberta Junior Hockey League schedule rolls out Thursday, when the circuit’s annual Showcase Weekend takes over the Tri Leisure Centre in Spruce Grove.

All 16 AJHL teams will play two games in the Edmonton suburb over three days. A broad collection of scouts from colleges across North America — for schools with teams in the NCAA, CIS and ACAC — will be in the stands evaluating players.

They will see who they like and then follow their progress.

It’s generally the start of the process which sees scholarships handed out over the season. In fact, since the first Showcase in 2007, 400-plus players have committed to college and universities and another 14 have been drafted by the National Hockey League.
