Spruce Grove Saints Open 2014 Western Canada Cup on Saturday

The Spruce Grove Saints will open the 2014 Crescent Point Energy Western Canada Cup on Saturday, April 26th as they take on the host Dauphin Kings of the MJHL.  The Saints will then face the BCHL Champion Coquitlam Express on Sunday, April 27th in their second consecutive game of the weekend.

The five participating teams were determined by winning their respective league championships. The Dauphin Kings will compete as the host team, while the Winnipeg Blues (Manitoba Junior Hockey League), Yorkton Terriers (Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League), Spruce Grove Saints (Alberta Junior Hockey League), and Coquitlam Express (BC Hockey League), round out the competition.

The 13-game tournament will include a round-robin schedule, followed by a three-game page playoff, with the Western Canada Cup Champion and the Runner-Up both representing Western Canada at the 2014 RBC Cup National Junior A Championship in Vernon, BC.

Spruce Grove held a spot amongst the top of the AJHL Standings all year and was ranked as #1 in the CJHL Top 20 Weekly Rankings multiple times throughout the final months of the regular season.  The Spruce Grove Saints were the winners of the Dave Duchak Trophy as the 2013-2014 AJHL Regular Season Champions with a record of 47-10-3 and 97 points.  The Saints have claimed the regular season title four times in the last six years.   The Saints have advanced to the League Final five times in the six last years and captured the League Title in 2010, 2011 and 2014.
