The Okotoks Oilers are pleased to announce that 20-year old forward Derek Thorogood has committed to play for the Marian University Sabres starting in the fall of 2014. Marian University is located in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and plays in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA).
Derek was acquired by the Oilers half way through the 2013-2014 season after spending his first 2+ seasons with the Calgary Canucks. In Derek’s three year junior career he recorded 41 goals and 88 points in 138 regular season games played
Unfortunately Derek was injured in the final regular season weekend and was unable to play for the Oilers in the 2013-2014 playoffs. The Marian University Sabres will be getting a fast, skilled, play-making center that should immediately help offensively as the Sabres look to close the gap on conference rival and defending National Champion St. Norbert College.
Derek is the 8th player from the 2013-2014 Oilers committed to a post secondary hockey program.
