The unthinkable has happened to the Okotoks Oilers.
After a solid 77-point season (36-19-5), they were sent packing in the first round of the Alberta Junior Hockey League playoffs after losing 5-1 in Game 5 on Wednesday, stunningly becoming upset victims of the Olds Grizzlys, owners of a 51-point campaign (21-30-9).
Olds, which almost pulled off a similar upset last year, pushing Okotoks to Game 5 in an almost identical first-round series, will face the defending national champion Brooks Bandits (39-13-8), the South Division’s top seed, in the second round.
