VIDEO: Bandits record streak continues with 26th straight win

BROOKS, AB (February 13, 2019) – Simon Boyko (Mississauga, ON) led the way with a hat trick and an assist, as the Brooks Bandits (50-3) extended their league-record winning streak to 26 games with an 8-1 home win over the Olds Grizzlys on Wednesday night.

The win also put the Bandits three wins away from tying the AJHL’s record for wins in a single season, with seven games left to achieve the mark.

Boyko opened the scoring at 5:56 of the first period with a wrist shot from the right circle that beat Olds goalie Jay Thomson, before Arnaud Vachon (Ajax, ON) doubled the lead on a wrist shot off the rush from the left side.

In the second, Randy Hernandez (Miami, FL) tipped home a net front setup from William Lemay (Marieville, QC) at 13:44 to make it 3-0, and Mack Hancock (Kingston, ON) one-timed home a slapper from the left circle for a 4-0 Brooks advantage.

Boyko got his second of the game 5:07 into the third when he one timed in a perfect backdoor feed from Ryan Mahshie (Stoney Creek, ON). Olds broke the shutout bid for goalie Tanner Marshall (Kelowna, BC) with a rebound goal from Andrew Malek at 6:14, but Brooks got final goals from Hancock jamming in a puck out of midair at 11:11, Nick Hale (Raleigh, NC) firing in a rebound goal at 17:01, and Boyko completing his hat trick with a net front tip at 17:40.

The Bandits outshot Olds 48-15 in the game, going 0 for 2 on the power play and a perfect 3 for 3 on the penalty kill.
