The Whitecourt Wolverines are proud to announce that 19 year old Forward Liam Motley has committed to Cornell University (NCAA Div. 1). Motley, a Calgary, Alberta native, played his midget hockey with the AAA Calgary Royals.
Motley joined the Wolverines in November after being acquired in a trade with the Camrose Kodiaks. Motley has registered 24 points (13 goals, 11 assists) in just 19 games with the Wolverines and has a total of 39 points this season which is 15th most in the AJHL.
“Liam has worked extremely hard to achieve his goals and has been a key part of the Wolverines success since joining the team this season,” says Wolverines head coach Gord Thibodeau. “I’m very happy for him and his family for being able to reach his goal of securing an NCAA division one scholarship.”
Cornell University is an Ivy League school that is located in Ithica, New York. They have won the NCAA championship twice in their history with 12 conference championships. Cornell University has produced over 70 NHL draft picks with names such as Joe Nieuwendyk, Riley Nash and Ben Scrivens.
“I would like to thank everyone who supported me to help get me this opportunity. My parents, family, teammates and all of my past and current coaches,” said Motley. “I particularly want to thank the Whitecourt Wolverines coaching staff for helping me reach an Ivy League school and highly respected NCAA division one program in Cornell.”
The entire Wolverines organization would like to congratulate Liam on his selection of Cornell University and wish him all the best in his hockey and academic endeavours.
