â??Chorneyko Commits to University of Calgary

The Spruce Grove Saints are extremely proud to announce that 1993 born, Saints Captain Corey Chorneyko, has committed to play for the University of Calgary Dinos for the 2014-15 season.  The Calgary Dinos are a member of the Canada West Universities Athletic Association (CWUAA) in the C.I.S.

Corey, a 4 year veteran, came to the Saints from the Leduc Oil Kings Midget AAA program.  In his 5 year career with the Saints, Corey played in 247 games, accumulating 21 goals, 98 assists for 119 points and 233 PIMS.  This year saw Corey set career records for scoring 12 goals, 31 assists for 43 points in a breakout season as Saints Captain. Corey leaves the Saints after winning the AJHL Championship twice, in his first and last season, as well as winning the AJHL Playoff MVP this season.

“Corey has been an integral part to our team, since the first game he played as a Saint four seasons ago”, stated Saints Head Coach Jason McKee.  “He has grown throughout his career into a heart and soul, back bone player with our team. He is the type of player that you can never replace. Corey embodied the culture of the Spruce Grove Saints, and carried it forward every day, both on and off the ice.  A tremendous young man, Corey has a very high compete level, and hockey IQ that will help him excel at the next level.  We wish Corey nothing but continued success, and his imprint that he left on the Saints will never be forgotten”.

“I would like to thank Coach McKee, Coach Ringrose and the Saints organization for their hard work to develop myself over the past four seasons”, said Corey Chorneyko.  “I also would like to thank my family, billets and everyone else who supported me. They made it possible to get where I am today.  I am extremely thankful to be joining such a great hockey program in the Dinos, and to be attending the University of Calgary.”

The Saints organization would like to congratulate Corey and his family on this step in his career, and wish him continued success moving forward with the University of Calgary Dinos.

Corey Chorneyko is the 6th Saints player to commit to a post secondary institution this season.
