The Spruce Grove Saints are proud to announce that 20 year old, Nathan Smith, has committed to play for Concordia University College for the 2014-15 season. The Concordia Thunder are a member of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC). Nathan joined the Saints at the trade deadline this year from the Drayton Valley Thunder. In his 5 year career in the AJHL, Nathan has played in 293 games, amassing 83 goals and 138 assists for 221 points and 694 PIMS. After joining the Saints in January, Nathan's presence helped solidify the Saints lineup.
“The acquisition of Nathan allowed us to add veteran depth to our line up, which was a key factor in us winning the AJHL championship,” stated Saints Head Coach Jason McKee. “Nathan has that ability to make a big hit, or score a timely goal. We thank Nathan for his time here with the Saints, and wish him continued success in his future.”
“I would like to thank all my coaches, teammates and billets throughout my junior hockey career. They all played a part in making it a fun and enjoyable time in my life, and I wouldn't be where I am without them,” says Smith. “I would also like to thank my parents for all that they have done for me to help my career.”
The Saints organization would like to congratulate Nathan and his family on this step in his career, and wish him continued success moving forward, both athletically and academically.
Nathan Smith is the 7th Saints player to commit to a post secondary institution this season.
