AJHL Duo Captures Scoring Title, Oil Barons Win Top Team Goaltender Award

The Alberta Junior Hockey League, in partnership with The RBC Play Hockey Project, are proud to announce the winners of the Top Team Goaltenders Award and AJHL Scoring Champion.  Forwards Spencer Dorowicz (Olds Grizzlys) and Colten Mayor (Whitecourt Wolverines) are the co-winners of the Ernie Love Trophy as the Scoring Champions with 75 points in the regular season.  Teammates Tanner Jaillet and Jesse Gordichuk of the Fort McMurray Oils Barons are the recipients of the Reebok / CCM Top Team Goaltenders Award.

Spencer Dorowicz (Olds, AB) scored 40 goals, 35 assists and 75 points to lead the South Division and the AJHL in scoring this season.  The 20 year-old scored a league leading 9 game winning goals, 15 powerplay goals, and recorded 3 hat tricks.  He was named the Pro Hockey Life Player of the Game 13 times in the regular season and was a finalist for the AJHL MVP Award. 

Spencer is in his fourth season with the Grizzlys and has committed to Robert Morris University for the 2014-2015 season.  Throughout his AJHL career, he amassed 179 points in 223 games for the Grizzlys.  Dorowicz scored 43 points in the 2012 and 2013 seasons, before breaking out with a 75 point performance this year.

Colten Mayor (St. Albert, AB) completed his first AJHL season with points in 16 of his last 17 games.  The 20 year-old opened the 2013-2014 season with a 5 point game, and continued on for 31 goals, 44 assists and 75 points.  Mayor led the AJHL with 1.4 points per game

Mayor was selected as the Pro Hockey Life Player of the Game 10 times in the regular season, and scored 4 game winning goals.  The Wolverines Team Captain was tied in a tight scoring race amongst North Division opponents with four of the top five scorers hailing from divisional rivals.

The recipient of the 2012-2013 Ernie Love Trophy was Mathieu Guertin of the Whitecourt Wolverines, who won the scoring race with 95 points.  The last member of the Olds Grizzlys to win the AJHL Scoring Champion Title was Dana Lattery in 1999-2000, who was also a co-winner with 108 points (64 game schedule).   The Scoring Champion has been awarded to co-winners four times in the 50 year history of the Alberta Junior Hockey League.

The 2013-2014 Top Team Goaltenders and recipients of the Reebok / CCM Top Team Goaltenders Award are Tanner Jaillet and Jesse Gordichuk of the Fort McMurray Oil Barons.  The Top Team Goaltenders award is presented annually to the goaltenders of the team with the lowest goals against average (GAA) in the regular season.  The MOB duo posted a 2.08 GAA and stepped into the AJHL Record Book in several categories along the way.

The Oil Barons allowed just 125 goals against and recorded 11 shutouts in the 2013-2014 regular season.  Jaillet and Gordichuk have tied the League Record for Most Shutouts, One Team, One Season with 11.

Tanner Jaillet is also the winner of the 2013-2014 Top Goaltender Award and was a finalist for the 2013-2014 AJHL MVP Award.  Jaillet recorded a league leading 6 shutouts and was 30-8-4 in the regular season with a 2.01 GAA and .933 save percentage. 

Jaillet (Red Deer, AB) was selected as the Pro Hockey Life Player of the Game nine times in the regular season and also received the honour of Alberta Dodge Dealers AJHL Player of the Month and the Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week in September 2013.  The Canadian Junior Hockey League selected Jaillet as the 1st Star of the Month for September 2013 in recognition of the goaltender’s remarkable start to the season.  The 20 year old goaltender is in his third season with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons and has committed to the University of Denver. 

Jesse Gordichuk (Penticton, BC) led the AJHL with a 1.88 GAA and .935 save percentage.  The 19 year-old rookie also posted 5 shutout victories and a record of 15-3-0 in the regular season.  Gordichuk has set a new AJHL Record for Highest Save Percentage, One Season at .935%, and will also be amongst the Top 10 in Lowest Goals Against Average, One Season with a 1.88 GAA. 

Tanner Jaillet was also the recipient of the Reebok / CCM Top Team Goaltenders Award in 2011-2012 alongside teammate Brody Hoffman.  The winner of the 2012-2013 award was Brooks Bandits goaltenders Devon Fordyce and Michael Fredrick.
