AJHL Pre-Season Opens Wednesday

The 2011 Alberta Junior Hockey League Exhibition Season will open on August 24th with two pre-season games. The 50-game Exhibition Season will run until September 7th and includes games across Alberta, BC and Saskatchewan. The 2011-2012 AJHL Regular Season officially begins on Friday, September 9th.

The Olds Grizzlys and Lloydminster Bobcats will host the first pre-season games of the season on Wednesday night. The Calgary Mustangs will travel to Olds to take on the Grizzlys at 7:30PM while the Lloydminster Bobcats will host the Bonnyville Pontiacs at 7:00PM.

The Fort McMurray Oil Barons embarked on the ultimate adventure today as they departed for the inaugural World Junior Club Cup in Omsk, Russia. The Oil Barons will represent Canada at the tournament from August 30th to September 4th, 2011. Eight clubs from Canada, the USA, Russia, Germany, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, and Czech Republic, all champions of national junior championships under 21, will take part in the IIHF World Cup.

The Drayton Valley Thunder, Spruce Grove Saints, Sherwood Park Crusaders, and St. Albert Steel will compete against one another in a pre-season tournament from August 26th – 28th. All games in the tournament will be played in the home arenas of the Saints, Crusaders and Steel. The Steel and Saints will also host pre-season games in Whitecourt, AB and Barrhead, AB.

The Bonnyville Pontiacs and Okotoks Oilers will rival teams in the ACAC during the 2011 Exhibition Season. The Brooks Bandits, Lloydminster Bobcats and Drumheller Dragons will battle in pre-season games against teams from the BCHL and SJHL. The Grande Prairie Storm will also participate in a pre-season match-up versus Dawson Creek of the NAHL.
