The Pizza 73 AJHL Player of the Week is AJHL scoring leader Ryan McAllister of the Brooks Bandits. With seven points (3G, 4A) in three games last week, McAllister surpassed the 100-point mark to break the team record for most points in a single season.
McAllister, 20, added an assist on the opening goal of the January 25th game versus the Camrose Kodiaks, but Brooks would end up on the wrong side of a 6-3 score. On January 28th, Brooks got back into the win column with a 10-5 victory over the Fort McMurray Oil Barons. McAllister scored his second hat trick of the season and recorded a season-high six points in the game. The Bandit forward was awarded with his eighth Viterra AJHL Star of the Game selection in the record setting night.
The Western Michigan University commit is the first Bandit to register 100 points in a season and has also set a team record for most assists in a single season passing the previous record of 68. The third-year Bandit now leads the AJHL in points (110) and assists (72).
Drayton Valley Thunder Captain Brett Bamber is the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week after leading his team to three consecutive victories on a South Division road trip.
Bamber, 20, scored a goal and an assist versus the Okotoks Oilers in the opening game of the road swing on January 28th. The Thunder picked up a 3-1 win and Bamber was selected as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game for the fifth time this season. The Thunder rolled into Canmore on January 29th and stole a 2-1 shootout from the Eagles. The trip concluded in dramatic fashion the next day as Brett Bamber marked an assist on three consecutive goals in the final minutes of the game to tie the Calgary Canucks and send the game into overtime. Drayton Valley was victorious with a 5-4 win in the extra frame.
The St Albert, AB defenceman is committed to the University of Alaska-Anchorage of the NCAA Division I. The four-year veteran has already surpassed his point totals from each previous season with 28 points (10G, 18A).
