Brittain WCHA Rookie Of The Week

University of Denver junior John Lee (Moorhead, Minn.) and freshman goaltender Sam Brittain (Calgary, Alberta) were honored today by the WCHA for their efforts in Denver’s 4-2 win and 2-2 overtime tie against Wisconsin last weekend. Lee was named Red Baron WCHA Defensive Player of the Week, while Brittain was named Rookie of the Week.Lee earned a +2 plus/minus series rating, delivered six hits from his blue line position, had four blocked shots, fired four shots on goal and also had an assist on a game-winning goal. Lee was named the No. 3 star of the game last Friday night (Oct. 22), with his game-winning assist coming on teammate Jason Zucker’s (Las Vegas) goal at 6:43 of the third period. A veteran of 86 collegiate games with the DU Pioneers, Lee has 18 career scoring points with two goals and 16 assists. Lee was drafted by Florida in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.Brittain stopped 51 of 55 shots in the two-game series for a .927 saves percentage and allowed only two even-strength goals. He had 26 saves in the Pioneers’ 4-2 win and 25 stops in the 2-2 tie. He also lead Denver to a 9-for-11 effort on the penalty-kill in the two games. On the 2010-11 season, the Florida (NHL) draftee leads Denver with a 1-1-2 record, a 1.70 goals-against average and a .940 saves percentage in four games and 247:36 minutes of action.
