The first Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week for the 2016-2017 Season is Liam Motley of the Camrose Kodiaks. Motley opened the season on Friday night with a Hat Trick and 5 point game versus the Drumheller Dragons. Liam also assisted on the game winning goal and was awarded as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game.
Motley (Calgary, AB) scored a total of 3 goals and 4 assists in two games over the weekend and leads the AJHL in scoring with 7 points and an average of 3.5 points per game. The 19 year-old forward is a second year Kodiak. In 2015-2016, it took Motely 15 games to accumulate 3 goals, a feat he has already reached in game one of the season. The Hat Trick on Friday night was the first of his AJHL career.
The Kodiaks are 2-0 to start the season following wins over South Division opponents, the Drumheller Dragons and Okotoks Oilers.
The Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week is Fort McMurray Oil Barons goaltender Eric Szudor. The 19 year-old recorded a shutout victory and 0.00GAA over the weekend as the Oil Barons exploded for 12 goals in two games against the Grande Prairie Storm.
Szudor saved 36 of 36 shots in the first two games of the season and was selected as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game on Opening Night. On Saturday he recorded his first-ever AJHL shutout. The Edmonton native is in is second season with the MOB.
