Canalta Hotels Player of the Week & Alberta Ford Defensive Player of the Week

The final Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week for 2016 is Ryley Smith of the Olds Grizzlys.  Smith scored 3 goals and 3 assists in 3 games last week to extend his point streak to 6 games.

Ryley Smith began the week with 3 assists in a 5-4 win over the Spruce Grove Saints.    On December 17th, he was awarded as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game with 2 goals in a re-match against the Saints.   Smith scored one of two Grizzly goals versus Bonnyville on December 18th to end his week.

Smith (Huxley, AB) leads the Grizzlys in scoring with 40 points (16G, 24A) and is 10th in the AJHL Scoring Race.   Currently, the 19 year-old forward is averaging 1.2 points per game.

The Grizzlys will now break for the Holidays and return on December 30th to host the Drumheller Dragons.

For a second consecutive week, Okotoks Oilers goaltender Riley Morris has been selected as the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week.   Morris posted a 3-0 record and has now won 5 in a row for the Oilers.  Morris has recorded only one regulation loss in his last 10 games.

Riley Morris (Calgary, AB) allowed just 5 goals on 116 shots and posted a 1.65 GAA over the week.  He received the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game Award on December 17th as he stopped 35 of 36 shots to defeat the Bonnyville Pontiacs. 

The third year Oiler holds a record of 17-7-3, and has the best save percentage of all AJHL goaltenders at .928%.  His 2.29 GAA in 3rd overall among AJHL goaltenders. 

The Okotoks Oilers have moved into 2nd place in the Viterra AJHL South Division with a record of 22-8-5.  They will close 2016 with a game against the Calgary Mustangs on Tuesday.
