Matt Tomkins epitomized the hometown hero on Saturday night.
The 17-year-old netminder made 44 saves to lead the Sherwood Park Crusaders to a 5-4 win over the Fort McMurray Oil Barons in front of 1,020 fans at Sherwood Park Arena.
It was Sherwood Park’s first win of the Alberta Junior Hockey League best-of-seven north division semifinal. Fort McMurray holds a 2-1 series lead.
