Crusaders Gylander Drafted by Detroit Red Wings

SHERWOOD PARK, AB: The Sherwood Park Crusaders are proud to announce that goaltender Carter Gylander (’01) has been drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in round 7, 191st overall in the National Hockey League Entry Draft.

Gylander, 18, is the first Crusader to be drafted into the NHL since 2012 when Matt Tomkins was taken 199th overall by the Chicago Blackhawks. He also becomes the eighth player in franchise history to hear his name called in the draft.

The Beaumont native played 22 games last season for the Crusaders finishing the season with a 16-4-0 record. He recorded a 2.43 GAA (7th in the AJHL), a 0.915 save percentage (8th in the AJHL) and three shutouts (7th in the AJHL). Back in November, Gylander committed to the Colgate University Raiders for the 2020-21 season.

The Crusaders organization would like to congratulate Carter and his family.
