Dell snares WCHA Defensive Player of the Week honors

North Dakota sophomore goalie Aaron Dell has been named Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA) Defensive Player of the Week for his play in UND’s sweep at Wisconsin last weekend.

Dell started both games against the 13th-ranked Badgers and posted a 1.00 goals against average and .938 save percentage for the weekend. The Airdrie, Alberta, native registered his first shutout of the season in Friday’s 1-0 win, stopping all 16 shots he faced. Dell also helped UND kill all six UW power-plays, including a pair of 5:00-minute majors, in that game. He then played two more shutout periods in Saturday’s 4-2 victory before UW finally scored twice in the third period. Prior to those two goals, Dell had held the Badgers off the board for the first 104:36 of the series.
