The first Canalta Hotels AJHL Player of the Week is Drumheller Dragons forward Josh Diegel. In the opening games of the 2024-25 regular season, the 2005-born right winger scored three goals and five points (3G, 2A).
Diegel scored two goals and an assist in a 9-4 win over the Olds Grizzlys on opening night. The second year Dragon scored a goal and an assist in the rematch on September 14th and was awarded as the Viterra AJHL Player of the Game in the 3-2 loss on home ice.
Rookie forward Ellis Mieyette has been awarded as the Inter Pipeline AJHL Rookie of the Week with five points (1G, 4A) in his first two games as a Drumheller Dragon. With four assists on September 13th versus the Grizzlys and his first AJHL goal the following night, the 2006-born led all rookies on opening weekend.
Fort McMurray Oil Barons goaltender Vincent Filion had a hot start with a 2-0 record and is the Alberta Ford Dealers AJHL Defensive Player of the Week. Filion posted a 1.50 GAA and .962 save percentage in the two Oil Barons victories. Filion (2004) made 45 saves on September 13th versus the Lloydminster Bobcats and 30 saves on September 14th, allowing just three goals against in the double header.
