The Lloydminster Jr. A Bobcats is thrilled to announce the hiring of Nigel Dube as the 25th Head Coach in franchise history. Nigel will also assume the role as the team’s General Manager. His debut behind the Bobcats bench will be made Wednesday night when the Cats play host to the Grande Prairie Storm.
From Lampman, Saskatchewan, Dube joins the Bobcat’s bringing a wealth of experience as both a coach and a player.
Dube’s coaching resume includes:
• Associate Coach – Camrose Kodiaks (AJHL) 2017 – Nov. 2018
• Assistant Coach – Minot Minotauros (NAHL) 2013 -2017
• Assistant Coach – Team Alberta Northeast (Alberta Cup)- 2018
• Head Coach – Team USA Ranger (CCM Int. Beijing, China) – 2018
A former defenceman during his playing days, the now thirty-year old, played in one RBC Cup with the Camrose Kodiaks during the 2007-08 season. Dube also spent time with the Penticton Vee’s of the BCHL. Following his Junior Career, Nigel began his post-secondary education where he played for the Minot State Beavers, winning a National Championship in 2013. Throughout his playing career, Dube served as either an Assistant Captain or Captain. He was formally recognized by each organization receiving various awards for his leadership and community involvement.
Dube brings an extensive education background. Graduating on the President’s Honour Roll from American Military University with a MBA in Sports Management – Coaching Theory. He also earned a pair of degrees from Minot State University in Health Science and Education.
Most recently, Dube has established the “One Foundation” a non-profit organization creating opportunities for youth in sport. He has been formally recognized for his community involvement by Minot Public Schools and the Friends of Battle River School Division.
“We are extremely excited to hire Nigel as our new Head Coach and General Manager,” said Bobcats Board of Directors. “Having played and coached in the AJHL, along with many other hockey experiences, including many different leadership roles as a player, we know that Nigel is the perfect coach to help build a winning culture for our deserving city.”
“This franchise and this city is still looking for that first banner to hang from the rafters, and although we know it will be a process, we feel way have made a tremendously positive step in that direction today.”
“I am humbled and honoured to be joining the Bobcats organization,” Dube said. “I would like to thank the board for trusting in me to create the culture on and off the ice they are looking for. I am excited to be moving to Lloydminster and becoming part of a great hockey community.”
