Quotes:

“I’m happy with the result. We don’t just take a game like that and write it off completely, but if we want to be a contender in this tournament we’re going to have to play better than we did. We’re a fast team – competitive and detailed, which I thought we got away from at times tonight. We scored eight goals so we did some good things as well, but we have to be better.”

  • Toronto head coach Vince Bellissimo on the opening-day win over Sudbury.

“We started with the power plays early in the game, which helped get the nerves out of the way. They’re a great team; they move the puck really, skate really well, they’re on top of you quickly and that’s the type of game I expected. Even up 2-0, I felt like they would play their style and they did. They got a power play and capitalized and like we have done a lot this year, we hung on and were able to capitalize on our power play [in overtime].”

  • Canmore head coach Andrew Milne on special teams being the key to success.

“I was just reading off the eyes and what they were doing from the start of the game. They like to swing through the middle and I was looking to take the middle away, which is a key part of it all. I got a step in the middle, tossed it on net and it found its way in. Getting the win is a huge confidence builder and everyone will be ready for our future games.”

  • Edwards on his overtime winner.
