(Spruce Grove, AB) – The Spruce Grove Saints are proud to announce second year forward Jayden Davis has committed to the University of Notre Dame Fighting Irish. The Fighting Irish, located in South Bend, Indiana, compete in the Big 10 Conference of the NCAA Men’s Hockey Division I. Davis joins fellow Saint teammate Niko Jovanovic, who committed to the Fighting Irish early this season.
The 5’11″, 183-pound forward from Calgary, AB is having an impressive second season in the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL), putting up 52 points (21 goals and 31 assists) through 52 games played.
Saints General Manager Rob Sklaruk was beyond excited for the newest Irish commit saying, “This is an outstanding accomplishment for Jayden, he has worked very hard both on and off the ice for this scholarship. Jayden continues to play the game the right way, he has special tools that we don’t find very often. I’m honored to see another proud moment for the Davis family.”
Jayden continues the athletic and scholastic legacy of the Davis family with his commitment to the University of Notre Dame, joining former Saint goaltender and older brother Matt, who currently plays at the University of Denver.
Saints Head Coach Bram Stephen was thrilled to see another one of his forwards continue their career at a historic university and says,
“Jayden is a throwback player with a skill set of today’s athlete. He works hard, plays tough and does the heavy lifting at both ends of the rink. It’s incredible to watch his maturation into the person and player he is today. We are incredibly excited and proud of his accomplishment of this scholarship to the prestigious, University of Notre Dame.”
Jayden took some time to reflect on what lead to his commitment saying,
“I’m thrilled to commit to such a fantastic program. I have so many people in my life to thank for being by my side and helping me pursue my hockey career. From the Edge School in Calgary, to everyone here in Spruce Grove, I can’t thank my teammates, coaches, trainers, advisors, and family enough. All the work put it behind the scenes by everyone is what has made this whole process so special and is what I’ll never forget when looking back. Joining the Saints program was the best decision for me and my family and I hope to leave a big mark here with them before joining the Fighting Irish.”
Davis joins teammates Niko Jovanovic (Notre Dame), Liam Watkins (Nebraska-Omaha), Brett Pfoh (Bowling Green), Breck Mckinley (Bowling Green), Luigi Benincasa (Ferris State) and Logan Acheson (Bemidji State) as committed players to NCAA Division I Universities and Braeden Virtue (Carleton) in U-SPORTS Canada.
The entire Saints organization would like to congratulate Jayden and his family on his commitment.
You can catch Jayden and the rest of the Saints as they start their journey for a sixth AJHL Championship on March 18th, 2022.
