JONES COMMITS TO UBC THUNDERBIRDS

The Storm is proud to announce that ’04 Goaltender Nicholas Jones has committed to play USports Men’s Hockey at University of British Columbia (UBC) this Fall.

Jones, from Calgary, AB, played 98 games in a Storm jersey after joining the team in the 2023-2024 season from the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL. This season, Jones posted a .918% during the regular season and had three shut out wins. Jones was a fan favourite on and off the ice, having dedicated a significant amount of time to helping develop youth goalies and to Diabetes Awareness. Along with teammate Zachary Wilson, Jones designed and implemented a Diabetes Awareness jersey and campaign in the 24-25 season.

When asked about signing with UBC, Jones said, “I’m super excited to have the opportunity to head out to Vancouver and play for a top end program while being at one of the best schools in the country. Been a dream school of mine since I was a kid, so it’s cool to see it coming to life. I want to say thank you to the city of Grande Prairie, as well as all the staff and teammates that gave me the opportunity and support to get to this point.”

Storm GM Mark Bomersback added, “We are very happy for Nick. He as a big part of our success towards the end of last season and that continued on to this season. We would like to wish him all the best at UBC.”

Congratulations to Nick and the Jones family!
