Okotoks, AB ? The Okotoks Oilers of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) are proud to announce that 2000 born forward Louis Jamernik (Calgary, Alberta) has committed to the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks.

Located in Grand Forks, North Dakota, the Fighting Hawks play in the NCAA?s National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) under fifth year Head Coach Brad Berry.  The Fighting Hawks have won 11 Conference Championships, participated in 32 NCAA Tournaments, 24 berths in the Frozen Four and are eight time NCAA Champions, including their most recent win in 2016.

Jamernik, 19, in his third AJHL season and second year with the Oilers, currently has 28 points (10 goals, 18 assists) in 31 games.

In the 2018-19 Season, Jamernik had 29 points (11 goals, 18 assists) in 51 games and added six points (3 goals, 3 assists) in 14 Inter Pipeline Cup playoff games, helping the Oilers reaching the South Final.

Oilers Head Coach / General Manager / Director of Hockey Development Tyler Deis says Jamernik?s work ethic and dedication to the Oilers program helped lead him to his commitment to the Fighting Hawks.

?The University of North Dakota has always looked to add special players to their illustrious program and Louis fits the Fighting Hawk culture,? he says. ?Louis has improved on the ice, but not just with his skill development.  Being a part of our leadership group has also helped him grow off the ice and turn into a key player for our line-up and an even better human being.?

Jamernik was recently invited to Team Canada West?s selection camp for this year?s edition of the World Junior A Challenge.

The Calgarian will be pursuing his passion for flying while enrolled in the Aviation Program at UND, one of the top facilities in the United States.  He says being able to play at a high caliber school is a privilege.

?I?m beyond excited to be joining such an elite hockey program that will not only give me the tools to develop myself as a player and a human being, but also help me achieve my dream of becoming a pilot.?

Jamernik becomes the 7th Oiler in franchise history to join the Fighting Hawks along with Brad Eidsness (2007, Buffalo Sabres), Corban Knight (2009, Florida Panthers), Derek Rodwell (2010, New Jersey Devils), Rhett Gardner (2016, Dallas Stars), Carter Huber (2018) & Jacob Bernard-Docker (2018, Ottawa Senators).

The Oilers would like to congratulate Louis and his family on his achievement and them for their dedication to our program and the Foothills community both on and off the ice.
