Miller Commits to Michigan Tech

Sherwood Park, AB: The Sherwood Park Crusaders are pleased to announce that Crusaders defenceman Tyler Miller (2004) has committed to Michigan Tech University.

“I am looking forward to my future as a husky at MTU,” said Tyler Miller. “I was so impressed with both the academic and athletic programs, as well as the atmosphere and energy at the rink. I’m excited to be part of such an amazing organization.”

Michigan Tech University, located in Houghton, Michigan, is an NCAA Division I program that plays in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association and currently has an 8-5-0 record. The Huskies are coached by Joe Shawhan, who has been with the program since the 2014-15 season.

Miller is in his second season with Sherwood Park after joining them from the NAX program. The Medicine Hat native has played in 35 games for the Crusaders and has scored two goals and six points. His first junior goal game in a 6-5 shootout victory over the Drumheller Dragons at the AJHL Showcase in Brooks.

“We as a organization would like to congratulate Tyler and the Miller family on his commitment to Michigan Tech,” said Head Coach Jeff Woywitka. “Tyler brings an element that not many defencemen can with how hard he plays, the way he skates, and how he takes game serious day in and day out. He is the ultimate Crusader and the kind of person and teammate anyone would want on their team. He has been a real pleasure to be around and work with.”

Miller is now the third Crusader from the 2021-22 roster to commit to an NCAA Division I program, joining Cale Ashcroft (University of Denver) and Tyler Bates (Colorado College).
