Mustangs Name Captains

The Calgary Mustangs are proud to announce Jared Van Ree as team captain for the 2013/2014 season.  The Mustangs have also named Jamie King and Carson McCormick as assistant captains.”Its a huge honor, it feels really good, I was captain last year but I knew coming into a new season with a new coach I had to earn it.  I was really happy to be named captain again this season,” said the 6 foot 2, 200 hundred pound defensemen Van Ree, who is entering his fourth and final season with the Mustangs.

Third year forward Jamie King knows what is expected of him having an “A” on his jersey, “There's definitely pressure with being a leader and being expected to go out and produce points, but Van Ree and I are use to it and we expect to come in and lead the team as best we can.”

King has registered 48 points in 95 career games with the Mustangs.

20 year-old defensemen Carson McCormick was acquired in a mid-season trade with the Bonnyville Pontiacs last season and attributes his abilities both on and off the ice as the leading factor in earning a letter after just 18 games as a Mustang.

“I’m a pretty positive guy and that always goes a long way to earning a leadership position,” said McCormick. “I think the fact that I'll stick up for anybody on the team and that I'll do what it takes to win and my compete level has a lot to do with me wearing a letter this year as well.”

The Mustangs are back in action this weekend with a game Friday night in Canmore against the Eagles and then return home Saturday night to face the Olds Grizzlys, puck drop is scheduled for 7:30pm at Father David Bauer Arena.
