The Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League are thrilled to announce forward Nathan Free has committed to Penn State University.
Free, 16, has dressed in five pre-season games in 2022 with the Bandits, scoring 1 goal and 1 assist along with a shootout goal. The Calgary, AB product was recruited out of the Calgary Royals U18 AAA.
“We were fortunate last season to have Nathan join our group for the playoffs and national championship,” said Bandits GM and Head Coach, Ryan Papaioannou.
“We believe he gained valuable experience and when he made the decision to pursue college hockey, we knew it wouldn’t take long before opportunities came his way. Penn State is a great fit and we are excited for him. His game will fit well with our style of play and although he’s only 16 this season he will still make an impact for our team. We’re looking forward to working with him in the years to come prior to his departure to Penn State.”
The Penn State Nittany Lions compete in the Big 10 Conference under Head Coach Guy Gadowsky.

The Bandits wrap up the 2022 Pre-Season on Saturday, September 10 when they host the Cranbrook Bucks of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL). Game time is 7:00 pm at the Centennial Regional Arena, and tickets are only $5.
The Bandits Regular Season Home Opener is Friday, September 16, when they host the Calgary Canucks at the CRA.
