NHL Central Scouting’s Mid-Season Rankings Sees 14 CJHLers Tabbed


CALGARY, Alta. –  The National Hockey League’s Central Scouting Bureau released its mid-season rankings Wednesday as a prelude to the 2022 NHL Draft and 14 players, currently on Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) rosters cracked the list.

Topping CJHLers is Okotoks Oilers (AJHL) left wing, Reiger Lorenz, who was slotted in the first round, 24th overall, among North American skaters.

Next were a pair of Ontario Junior Hockey League defencemen in Jack Sparkes of the St. Michael’s Buzzers and George Faragas, who skates for the North York Rangers.

They were tabbed in the third round, 71st and 91st respectively.

The fourth round grouping features a trio of centremen from the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League in Matthew Perkins, (Humboldt Broncos), Kevin Anderson (Notre Dame Hounds) and Connor McGrath (Humboldt Broncos).

A fifth round placing was earned by Virden Oil Capitals (MJHL) right wing Carson Buydens.

Then, the sixth round list had centre Lucas Buzziol from the Milton Menace (OJHL) and right winger Bowden Singleton of the Okotoks Oilers (AJHL).

Among those rated in the seventh round were Spencer Pennner, (D) Selkirk Steelers (MJHL), Harrison Ballard, (C) Wellington Dukes (OJHL), Davis Fry, (C) Steinbach Pistons (MJHL) and Zach Bookman, (D) Brooks Bandits (AJHL).

Meanwhile, Navan Grads (CCHL) netminder Benjamin West was ranked 31st among goaltenders on North American clubs.

The 2022 NHL Draft is slated for July 7-8 at the Bell Centre in Montreal.
