PARKER SAWKA COMMITS TO MARYVILLE UNIVERSITY

OKOTOKS, AB — The Okotoks Oilers of the Alberta Junior Hockey League are happy to announce that 2002-born goaltender Parker Sawka (Cochrane, AB) has committed to attend and play for Maryville University, beginning next season.

Located near St. Louis, Missouri, the Maryville Saints play in Division I of the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA).

Sawka spent his entire four-year Junior A career with the Oilers, beginning in the 2019-20 campaign and culminating as its number-one goalie this past season, in which he compiled a 23-16-1 record and 2.74 goals against average, the fourth-best in the Alberta Junior Hockey League. He also recorded the fifth-most wins and played the sixth-most minutes of any goalie in the league.

“Our organization is extremely grateful for the years of dedication that Parker brought to our program,” said Oilers head coach and general manager Tyler Deis. “He has had to battle through more than his fair share of adversity but was always a positive influence on our team no matter what. We’re confident he’ll be successful south of the border and have just as great an impact there as he did with us.”

In total, Sawka played in 70 regular season games for the Oilers, going 39-29-1 with a 2.92 goals against average and .895 save percentage, winning a further 7 of 12 playoff games in his final two years.
