Pierre-Anthony Martineau commits to Hobart College

BROOKS, AB – The Brooks Bandits of the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) are pleased to announce that 1997-born forward Pierre-Anthony Martineau has committed to attend and play for Hobart College, beginning in the 2018-19 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) hockey season.

Located in Geneva, New York, the Hobart Statesmen play in the NCAA’s Division III New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) under 18-year head coach Mark Taylor. The team has recorded 16 consecutive winning seasons, reaching the NCAA Tournament eight times and the national semifinals twice. It captured the NEHC tournament championship last year in its first season in the conference.

“Marty made an impact to our line up immediately with his speed,” said Bandits head coach and general manager Ryan Papaioannou. “There weren’t many players that could play at his pace, and his ability to track on the forecheck was a big help to our overall game.

“Most importantly he became one of our best face-off men, along with taking on a penalty kill role that started to see us create offence when down a man.”

Martineau, 21, joined the Bandits in late November after beginning the season with the New Jersey Rockets of the National Collegiate Development Conference (NCDC).

In 32 regular season games, he scored 23 points (7 goals, 16 assists) for Brooks, and was the team’s eighth-highest scorer in terms of points per game. In the playoffs he added 11 points (5 goals, 6 assists) in 15 games, tying for fifth on the team in postseason scoring as the Bandits reached the AJHL South Final.

“He was quiet but very well liked by his teammates and was extremely easy to coach,” Papaioannou added. “Marty has a great drive and work ethic that Hobart will be the recipient of over the next 4 years. We look forward to watching his continued development.”

Last season, he reached the RBC Cup national championship semifinal, where he faced his future team in Brooks, after registering 25 points (11 goals, 14 assists) in 18 games with the Terrebonne Cobras of the Quebec Junior Hockey League (QJHL) and adding 19 points (7 goals, 12 assists) in 25 playoff games. He was the team’s leading scorer at the RBC Cup with 4 points in 5 games.

Martineau is the twelfth player on 2017-18 Bandits roster committed to an NCAA school, joining:
