RBC Community Ambassador – Dexton Mozell, Drayton Valley Thunder

Dex is always the first player to step up when his coaches are looking for volunteers at community events. He is an outgoing mentor to local youth, spending time weekly in local elementary schools with P.E. classes and reading groups. Dexton knows the importance of having a role model and someone to look up to. He aims to be that for the students he interacts with by forming bonds with them, making them feel special, and even having them come to games.

On the ice, Dexton spends 1-2 hours a day helping out with minor hockey. He provides coaching tips and ultimately focuses on keeping it fun. He believes at any level, that’s what the game is all about.

Not only has he dedicated his time to helping others and forming a real community, he has even changed the attitude of the rest of his team. Now they enjoy giving back to the community in groups, truly bringing the team together!

Each AJHL team will nominate one player who has shown exemplary commitment to community service to be recognized as an AJHL RBC Community Ambassador – all 16 athletes will make up the 2018-19 AJHL RBC Community Ambassador Team!   At the conclusion of the regular season, one AJHL RBC Community Ambassador will be selected as the recipient of the RBC Community Award. A donation will be made to the Ambassador’s local charity from RBC and a Scholarship will be provided to the player from the AJHL to be used for post-secondary education.
