Rieger Lorenz Named to Team Canada for IIHF U18 Worlds

OKOTOKS, AB – Okotoks Oilers forward Rieger Lorenz (Calgary, AB) has been named to the Team Canada roster for the upcoming IIHF U18 World Championship, Hockey Canada announced today.

Lorenz, 18, is the only Canadian Junior Hockey League (CJHL) player on the roster; his selection follows up his appearance at the National Men’s Under-18 Team summer development camp last July.

The University of Denver commit set the Oiler record for points and goals by a rookie player this season, recording 85 points (38 goals, 47 assists) in 60 games, and adding 11 points in 14 playoff games as the Oilers reached the AJHL South Final.

He is ranked 24th among North American skaters by NHL Central Scouting for the upcoming NHL Entry Draft.

The last Oiler to represent Canada at the World U18s was Dylan Holloway, who scored 4 points in 7 games at the 2019 event following his final season with the Oilers before moving to the University of Wisconsin.

The tournament runs from April 23rd to May 1st in Landshut and Kaufbeuren, Germany. Lorenz and Team Canada will open their tournament play against the United States on April 23rd at 11:30am, with live coverage on TSN.
